From May 19 to 22, 2025, Microsoft held its annual developer conference, Microsoft Build, where it showcased major advancements in artificial intelligence and developer tools. Below, we highlight the most important announcements related to Copilot, Azure, and Data & AI solutions.

Databases and Analytics: Innovation for the AI Era

Microsoft has announced significant enhancements to its database and analytics solutions, designed to support the development of intelligent applications:

• SQL Server 2025: In private preview, this version includes built-in artificial intelligence to streamline the creation of intelligent applications and RAG patterns, offering a consistent SQL experience across on-premises and cloud environments.
• Azure Cosmos DB: Introduces native vector search capabilities, allowing storage, indexing, and querying of data based on vector embeddings — essential for generative AI applications.
• Azure Database for PostgreSQL: Now enables vector embeddings to be generated directly within the database server using a SQL interface, simplifying the development of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) applications and improving performance.
• Microsoft Fabric: A unified analytics platform that brings together data engineering, data integration, data storage, data science, real-time analytics, and business intelligence — all connected to a single data repository called OneLake. Fabric enables users to use natural language to build dataflows, generate code and functions, and create machine learning models.

Copilot: Entering a New Era of Intelligent Agents

Microsoft has expanded Copilot’s capabilities, transforming it into a more autonomous and versatile intelligent agent. Key innovations include:

• Copilot in Azure: Now in public preview for all customers, it allows users to diagnose and resolve application issues using conversational queries, and manage SQL databases using natural language.
• Tenant Copilot and Agent Factory: Microsoft plans to launch “Tenant Copilot,” a tool that acts as a digital twin of the organization, adapting to the company’s communication and work style. In addition, the “Agent Factory” concept aims to simplify the management and deployment of AI agents working alongside human employees.
• Copilot Tuning: A new feature that enables businesses to tailor Copilot agents using their own data, enhancing productivity and scaling innovation across development and enterprise environments.

Azure: Empowering the Development of AI Applications

Azure continues to strengthen its position as the leading platform for building artificial intelligence solutions. The main updates include:

• Azure AI Foundry: A unified platform that integrates tools like Copilot Studio, GitHub, and Visual Studio, enabling the creation, customization, and deployment of AI models and solutions. It also includes the Azure AI Agent Service to automate processes with intelligent agents under human supervision.
• Azure AI Studio: Simplifies the integration of external data sources into Azure OpenAI Service and Azure Machine Learning, allowing developers to build next-gen AI apps more efficiently.
• Azure OpenAI Plugins: Currently in private preview, these plugins streamline the creation and consumption of APIs that extend GPT-4 capabilities, including integrations with Azure Cognitive Search, Azure SQL, and Azure Cosmos DB.
