Display your dates in Power BI – DimDate Series (3/3)
In today’s post, we’re going to end up with the DimDate series in Power BI. To begin, I will show you some of the visualizations that Power Bi offers by default as well as the personalized visualizations that we can find in the Marketplace.
1.Slicer
These are the types of Slicer that Power Bi Desktop offers for time measurements:
As you can see, Year is a Slicer of type Dropdown and MonthNameLong is a Slicer of type List. On the other hand the Slicer Date is more interesting for the use of dates since it allows us to select a range of dates in a comfortable way. This selector is very useful for large ranges of dates. It also allows us to select a date from the calendar or write the date by hand as you can see below:
2.Tables
Less and less used by Power BI consumers, but no less useful are the tables. Thanks to the tables we can observe the data in a detailed way.
3. Charts
The most used visualizations to show data in the range of dates are the graphs, these allow us to see at a glance in a non-detailed way the trend that follows the data. In the following image we can see some of the graphics that Power Bi offers us.
There is also a Graph that allows us to see the cumulative total of the data.
There are very interesting visualizations in the Marketplace like the following:
- Ultimate Variance allows us to create graphics in a dynamic way for example in the following report we have selected from 2013 to 2016, so we have created 4 graphics.
- ZoomCharts Advanced Timeseries is one of the most used visualizations. As you can see in the video with a simple click we can see the data in more detail each time.
- CalendarVisual creates a calendar for each selected year in which we can observe the months and days with the saturation of color corresponding to the data.
To finish I would like to show you a custom display of the Marketplace that can be used for presentations. Thanks to Play Axis we can make the report go forward in time while we observe how the data is changing as you can see in the next video.
